It is my greatest desire to see a society filled with creative and positive individuals. This can only be achieved through exposing children to music and by extension involving them in music education activities. Music in itself acts as a medium for various functions such as healing, relaxation and the transmission of messages. Dubbed as the universal language, it plays an essential role in social equality. These are only some of the many benefits provided by music. Music study, on the other hand, brings a little more to the table. Not only does it involve interacting with one’s emotions but also taps into the intellectual and creative beings inside of us. If done consistently and with discipline, one can gain beneficial rewards from music study. They can use that incentive to delve deeper into their study of music and seek out that positive impact on their lives.
An educator’s primary goal should be inclusive in nature, ensuring that they reach out to each and every one of their students, regardless of level or ability. Creating a positive and safe environment for students to learn while freely and creatively expressing themselves is one of the goals I have set as an educator. I also believe that maintaining an atmosphere that allows for musical discoveries or exploration is an important factor in the classroom setting. My aim as a music educator, however is to not only teach and share my knowledge of the fundamentals of music to students, but to mould them into creative and critical thinkers and problem solvers in everyday life situations. This can be done through exposing them to various styles of the art form with their respective cultures while seeking out their interests. These skills will guide them to become positive citizens in society. A child’s development is therefore not complete without the inclusion of music education.
